BC CESCL - Certified Erosion Sediment Control Lead

CERTIFIED EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL LEAD (BC CESCL)

BC CESCL is a foundational ESC training program and is available to all ESC practitioners. It largely focused on ESC knowledge needed by site personnel, from inspectors to contractors to site superintendents, who wish to demonstrate understanding and commitment to effective ESC on their sites. The BC CESCL does not qualify someone to become an ESC plan designer or Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) under BC's Professional Governance Act.

This course will provide the student with two days of instruction in erosion and sediment control. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) recognized by the ESCA BC and other accrediting agencies. Regulators in British Columbia are increasingly looking to see certified ESC practitioners to manage construction sites.

The BC CESCL designation is valid for three years from the course completion date. BC CESCLs have six months from their certificate expiration date to re-certify with the one-day recertification course. If they miss that course, they must complete the full two-day BC CESCL course again.

BC CESCL training courses are currently provided online four times a year, and in-person courses can be arranged for private groups.

See the calendar on our homepage for upcoming course dates.

The BC CESCL Course outline consists of the following:

  • Erosion and Sedimentation Impacts
  • Erosion and Sedimentation Processes
  • Factors that Influence Erosion
  • Canadian Rules and Regulations
  • Construction Site Inspections
  • Introduction to Stormwater Planning
  • Introduction to Erosion Control Measures
