There is a range of training opportunities for people who are new to ESC and experienced practitioners looking to expand their skills. Professional development should be an ongoing practice, and ESCA BC recommends practitioners look for a wide range of opportunities to continue learning.
ESCA BC Accredited Training ProgramsThe association recognizes three programs for accreditation:
Additional training programs are noted at the bottom of the page (without endorsement), and we encourage all practitioners to carefully research and assess the programs before registering.
BC CESCL (British Columbia Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead)BC CESCL certification and training is ideal for anyone looking for an introduction to erosion and sediment control practices and for individuals that are responsible for installing and maintaining ESC measures. BC CESCL certification would be beneficial for home builders, general contractors, labourers and ESC installers on development and/or infrastructure projects, and for ESC monitors and service providers. BC CESCL is not sufficient to become an ESC plan designer or meet the requirement of a Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) under British Columbia's Professional Governance Act. ESCA BC administers the BC CESCL, and public courses are offered four times a year. Private courses can be arranged for groups of 25+ participants or a minimum fee. Please contact us for more information about private courses. If this is the training and certification you are interested in, please continue on to our CESCL-specific page for more information including the opportunity to register for one of our upcoming training sessions.
CAN-CISEC (Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control)CISEC certification and training is best suited for ESC practitioners that are responsible for inspecting and overseeing the installation of erosion and sediment control plans (ESCPs) and ensuring that the planned ESC measures are functional, as well as providing professional recommendations to improve ESC related function. CISEC certification would be beneficial for site supervisors and/or dedicated ESC supervisors on construction, development and/or infrastructure projects, environmental monitors, and compliance and enforcement officers. NOTE: The CAN-CISEC is administered by Ecopliant, and NOT by ESCA BC. If this is the training and certification you are interested in, please continue on to our CISEC specific page for more information or visit Ecopliant's CISEC webpage.
CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control)CPESC certification and training is best suited for ESC practitioners that are responsible for developing Erosion and Sediment Control planning documents for large scale development, construction and infrastructure projects. CPESC certification would be beneficial for Environmental Monitors, Engineers, Biologists, Agrologists, dedicated ESC supervisors on construction, development and/or infrastructure projects, municipal staff responsible for plan review, and Compliance and Enforcement Officers. NOTE: The CPESC is administered by Envirocert and NOT by ESCA BC. If this is the training and certification you are interested in, please continue on to our CPESC specific page for more information or visit Envirocert's CPESC webpage.
Additional ESC Training OpportunitiesThere are other organizations offering training in erosion and sediment control practices. NOTE: We recommend you carefully investigate the course content and reviews of each before deciding if it is best for you.
